IBM India, Meetup - Instana Lab

This lab is intended to educate on how to use Instana to monitor your environment. The lab will focus on a few key areas including the installation and configuration of Agents, learning administrative capabilities, and how to diagnose problems with Instana. Key sections of the lab include:

1) In the first portion of the lab, students will download and setup Instana Agent on their system.

2) Next, they will simulate high CPU and memory consumption through a java application.

3) In the 3rd section of the lab, students will explore the monitoring capabilities of Instana in relation to CPU and memory of their system.

For the lab, you will be using the following Instana environment. Open your browser and login to https://instana-labs.instana.io/

Students will be login in with user account apmdemo-2@yahoo.com. The password is provided by the trainer.

After successfully login into the Instana environment, you should see the main landing page that includes a list of Websites & Mobile Applications, Applications, Platforms, Infrastructure, and Events.

Next, we’ll be installing the Instana Agent.
Choose your operating system from the below list [Windows, Mac and Linux] and download the document for step by step way to download, configure and start the Agent.

Next, start the Java application to consume high CPU and memory on your system.

And last, to monitor the usage of CPU and memory through Instana and visualize it on Instana dashboard.
